About the Projects

You’ll play a key role across a suite of high-profile energy transmission and substation upgrade projects in the region, including:

• Full replacement of ageing substations and associated demolition
• Delivery of two new-build substations including civil engineering, drainage, and security infrastructure
• Complex underground cabling works and enabling site packages
• With construction activity already underway on some sites, your presence on site will be essential to driving high environmental standards from mobilisation through to delivery

What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading environmental and sustainability efforts across multiple active construction sites
• Reviewing and delivering environmental management plans, permits, and consents
• Conducting regular site inspections, audits, toolbox talks and assurance activities
• Advising site teams, senior project managers and construction leads on environmental risks, compliance, and improvement opportunities
• Managing environmental incidents, reporting and corrective actions

What We’re Looking For

• Demonstrable professional experience in environmental management on infrastructure, construction, energy, or linear projects (e.g., rail, highways, utilities, civils)
• Good working knowledge of UK environmental legislation, licensing and compliance processes
• Ability to challenge and influence project teams with credibility and confidence
• Comfortable working on active construction sites, conducting inspections, and identifying issues on the ground

We’re supporting a nationally recognised contractor delivering a once-in-a-generation, state-backed power transmission upgrade - part of a major programme to modernise the UK’s energy infrastructure. With extensive ecological sensitivities and a multi-year construction timeline, this is a rare opportunity to step into a strategic, high-profile role with genuine long-term career potential.

As Lead Ecologist, you’ll lead ecological compliance and delivery across this nationally significant Development Consent Order (DCO) scheme. You’ll act as the central point of contact for ecology matter - working closely with the client, statutory bodies (e.g. Natural England, RSPB), consultants, and internal delivery teams to protect biodiversity while supporting sustainable construction.

What you’ll be doing:

• Acting as the project’s ecology lead - primary interface for internal teams, the client, and external regulators
• Managing a small in-house ecology team and supervising subcontract consultants
• Developing and implementing ecological management plans aligned with legal and DCO requirements
• Leading on licensing, protected species compliance, and engagement with key stakeholders
• Supporting Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) delivery and long-term habitat management strategies
• Providing strategic ecological advice to delivery teams - shaping decisions

What we’re looking for:

• Strong ecological knowledge and understanding of UK wildlife legislation
• Prior experience delivering ecological mitigation on live infrastructure or linear construction projects such as Rail, Highways, Utilities.
• Confidence in managing clients, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams
• Familiarity with DCO frameworks, BNG, and environmental permitting (desirable)
• Degree in Ecology or a related field (essential); CIEEM membership preferred
• Experience managing teams or leading consultants
• Willingness to be site-based 3 - 4 days per week (Ipswich/Colchester area) with flexible home working

We’re supporting a Tier 1 contractor delivering a nationally significant underground cabling scheme that will help power the UK’s low-carbon future. This is a rare opportunity to play a hands-on role on a 5-year project that stretches from Scotland down to England.

As Environmental Sustainability Advisor, you’ll be site-based near Hull (initially in pre-construction offices, then moving to a purpose-built construction compound near Market Weighton). You’ll join an established environmental and sustainability team with a strong collaborative culture, working closely with the operations team from day one.

What you’ll be doing:

• Supporting environmental compliance across site works including construction, civils, archaeology, hydrology and more
• Reviewing planning conditions, management plans, and ensuring permit requirements are met
• Conducting site inspections and monitoring, escalating risks or issues proactively
• Building positive relationships with the operations team and attending weekly progress meetings
• Assisting with documentation and delivery against key sustainability targets (e.g. BNG, carbon reduction, resource efficiency)
• Engaging with local stakeholders and ensuring best practice in community and environmental impact

What we’re looking for:

• Prior experience in a site-based environmental or sustainability role, ideally within infrastructure, civils, utilities, or heavy industry
• Strong working knowledge of UK environmental legislation, permitting, and compliance
• A degree in Environmental Science or a similar related subject—or equivalent practical experience in construction with a transition into sustainability
• Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel between project sites

About the Project

What You’ll Be Doing

• Supporting the Environmental Manager and project teams to deliver environmental management plans, actions, and sustainability objectives on a major infrastructure project
• Driving compliance with environmental legislation, consents, permits, and planning conditions
• Managing on-site environmental risk, helping to mitigate impacts on land, watercourses, and habitats
• Leading day-to-day environmental assurance activities, including inspections, audits, and incident investigations
• Engaging with regulatory authorities, landowners, and project stakeholders to maintain positive relationships
• Mentoring and supporting more junior Environmental Advisors and Graduates where required
• Contributing to habitat restoration, land management, and peatland protection efforts
• Advising on ecology, water management, flood risk, and civil construction activities on site
