Sustainable Futures Group (SFG) is recruiting an Occupational Hygienist for a nationally significant low-carbon energy development based in Redcar, Teesside. This is a first-of-its-kind, large-scale infrastructure project combining power generation and carbon capture to help accelerate the UK’s net zero ambitions.
This is a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact role at the centre of a complex construction environment - helping shape how occupational health risks are identified, monitored and managed across every stage of delivery.
About the Project
You’ll join the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team on a major new infrastructure development currently underway in the North East. The project is part of a wider national initiative to decarbonise heavy industry with construction focused on a new integrated energy facility that will act as a blueprint for sustainable industrial development across the UK.
This is a permanent site-based role with smart-working flexibility (up to 2 days a week remote working) and structured long-term opportunities for progression.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading on occupational hygiene across a large, multi-disciplinary construction site
- Providing expert advice on exposure risks, control measures and regulatory compliance
- Designing and delivering health risk assessments and occupational exposure monitoring programmes
- Analysing results, implementing interventions, and ensuring mitigation strategies are in place
- Delivering toolbox talks, campaigns and training on occupational health topics
- Supporting incident investigations, audits, and assurance reviews
- Advising site leadership and contributing to the wider HSE strategy for the project
What We’re Looking For
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Hygiene (or similar)
- BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence or equivalent qualification (desirable)
- Strong understanding of occupational health risks, ideally within industrial and construction environments
- Practical experience applying good occupational hygiene practice on major projects
- Knowledge of UK HSE legislation and occupational health risk frameworks
- Ability to design and deliver workplace monitoring, analysis, and improvement programmes
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and reporting skills
