Job Description

Ready to lead occupational health innovation on one of the UK’s most important net zero infrastructure projects?

Sustainable Futures Group (SFG) is recruiting an Occupational Hygienist for a nationally significant low-carbon energy development based in Redcar, Teesside. This is a first-of-its-kind, large-scale infrastructure project combining power generation and carbon capture to help accelerate the UK’s net zero ambitions.

This is a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact role at the centre of a complex construction environment - helping shape how occupational health risks are identified, monitored and managed across every stage of delivery.

About the Project

You’ll join the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team on a major new infrastructure development currently underway in the North East. The project is part of a wider national initiative to decarbonise heavy industry with construction focused on a new integrated energy facility that will act as a blueprint for sustainable industrial development across the UK.

This is a permanent site-based role with smart-working flexibility (up to 2 days a week remote working) and structured long-term opportunities for progression.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading on occupational hygiene across a large, multi-disciplinary construction site
  • Providing expert advice on exposure risks, control measures and regulatory compliance
  • Designing and delivering health risk assessments and occupational exposure monitoring programmes
  • Analysing results, implementing interventions, and ensuring mitigation strategies are in place
  • Delivering toolbox talks, campaigns and training on occupational health topics
  • Supporting incident investigations, audits, and assurance reviews
  • Advising site leadership and contributing to the wider HSE strategy for the project

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree or Diploma in Occupational Hygiene (or similar)
  • BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence or equivalent qualification (desirable)
  • Strong understanding of occupational health risks, ideally within industrial and construction environments
  • Practical experience applying good occupational hygiene practice on major projects
  • Knowledge of UK HSE legislation and occupational health risk frameworks
  • Ability to design and deliver workplace monitoring, analysis, and improvement programmes
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and reporting skills

What’s on Offer

  • A competitive basic salary
  • Choice of a Company Car or Car Allowance
  • Annual bonus scheme
  • Smart working with up to 2 days a week working from home
  • Private healthcare (family cover)
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Enhanced family leave and flexibility policies
  • Pension, share scheme and volunteering leave
  • Structured training, career development and support from a high-performing HSE team

Why Join?

  • Meaningful Work – Help shape the future of UK infrastructure and set new benchmarks for occupational health
  • Career Progression – Join a growing national HSE team with strong support for professional development
  • Impact – Be part of a team making measurable contributions to health protection, project safety, and sustainability

This is more than just another occupational health role – it’s a career-defining opportunity to influence how we build a safer, healthier, lower-carbon future.
